Beginning November 2025, the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) approved regulations allowing Ohio student-athletes to enter into agreements and receive compensation for the use of their name, image, and likeness (NIL). This may include compensation for appearances, endorsements, social media content, licensing, and other personal branding opportunities tied to a student-athlete’s public recognition.
NIL opportunities are governed by OHSAA eligibility bylaws and do not permit student-athletes to be paid to play their sport. To remain eligible for interscholastic athletics, all students must continue to meet the requirements of Bylaw 4 (Eligibility). Additionally, Bylaw 5 (Awards, Gifts, and Prizes) remains unchanged, limiting awards to a maximum value of $500 per event and prohibiting cash awards.
The OHSAA NIL regulations also include reporting requirements and specific limitations to ensure student-athletes do not violate recruiting, amateurism, or eligibility rules.
